Chezzie’s Chance by Dave Duggan is a new comedy, with jazz, featuring a swinging jazz trio and two all-singing, all-acting performers, certain to charm you. A hit when premiered at last year’s Festival, CHEZZIE CHANCE by Dave Duggan, is a treat for jazz lovers, theatre lovers and anyone who loves a show.
Starring the music of Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billy Eckstine, Freddie Hubbard, Fannie Johnston and more, the play swings to the rhythm of that moment in life when the young leave the nest.
Chezzie has unmatched school results. When he tells his mother, Donna, that he has a big announcement to make, she expects a full steak dinner and news of his advance into a high tech career. Instead, Chezzie takes her to a jazz club and tells her he plans to be a singer. Donna says he’s wasting his life. Chezzie tells her it’s jazz and, like him, she can take her chance to be free.
Free to live, laugh, love – and sing.
With Orla Mullan (The Threepenny Opera, The Lyric Theatre) as Donna and Conor O’Kane as Chezzie and a swinging jazz trio on-stage.
CHEZZIE’S CHANCE, written and directed by Dave Duggan, is a Blue Eagle and City of Derry Jazz Festival production, produced by Jonathan Burgess, with the support of the City of Derry Jazz & Big Band Festival and Derry City and Strabane District Council.
